Our group is focusing on systemic and pulmonary hypertension. We are interested to know how systemic hypertension contributes in the progression of neurodegeneration. We found that there is activation of glial cells in hippocampus and cortex in the model of chronic hypertension induced by ligation of renal artery and deoxycorticosteron acetate (DOCA) along with inflammatory changes. Further, our group is trying to dissect out the role of poly (ADP-Ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) and Fatty Acid Synthase (FAS) in pulmonary hypertension and found that pharmacological inhibition of PARP-1 and FAS attenuates the pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular hypertrophy. As a part of CDRI drug development programme, we are also evaluating plant/herbal for their antihypertensive potential and also found that Pomegranate and Ashwagandha imparted protection in model of pulmonary hypertension. |
