Dr. Kumkum Srivastava nee Tyagi, a PhD in Zoology from Kanpur University, Kanpur worked as Research fellow and Post doctoral fellow in CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow in 1979-2000. She served as scientist in CSIR-CDRI Lucknow from 2000 and continuing as Principal Scientist in the same Institute. During 1991-1992 she was visiting scientist in NUS, Singapore.
Dr. Srivastava focused her research on two parasitic diseases, Lymphatic Filariasis and Malaria with special emphasis on Model Development, Drug Discovery and host-parasite interaction.
She had Published 80 Papers and one book Chapter.

Lymphatic Filariasis-

  • Model Development: Establishment of human lymphatic filarial infections, Brugia malayi and Wuchereria bancrofti in rodents and non human primates.
  • Host-Parasite relationship with special emphasis on immune status of host and immuno-modulation
  • Development of immunodiagnostic test using Infective larvae of Human Lymphatic filarial parasite, Brugia malayi
  • Identification and optimization of lead molecules with promising antifilarial activity

Malaria-

  • Identification of new lead molecules for development of new antimalarials
  • Up gradation of existing model system and assaysfor evaluation of antimalarial activity of novel moieties against Plasmodium falciparum.
  • Selection and characterization of Arteether resistant parasite line using laboratory maintained Plasmodium falciparum clones.
  • Management of Mycoplasma contamination in P. falciparum cultures
  • In vitro exploration for Drug Combinations for therapeutic intervention
