| CURRENT AREAS OF INTEREST |
| The activities of our lab can be broadly classified as basic and applied aspects of TB research: |
|
The basic aspect of our activities pertains to understanding the role of metabolic pathways involved in carbon, nitrogen, energy and co-factor metabolism of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and their role in mycobacterial survival and persistence. To elucidate the role of selected pathways we develop recombinant Mtb strains and study them under in vitro and, ex vivo in vivo growth conditions. |

The applied aspect of our activities include: a) Developing target specific screening systems for identification of inhibitors of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These systems offer significant advantages over in vitro inhibition assays using purified proteins as identified inhibitors are not affected by permeability and efflux issues. b) Screening of inhibitors against Mtb malate synthase (GlcB). |
